TEMPORARY PERMITS

If you recently purchased a vehicle and need a temporary permit, we will need you valid photo ID and some one of the following items:

  • A valid Montana title with the signatures of ALL legal owners notarized, with the notary acknowledgement being dated within the last 40 days.
  • A notarized bill of sale, signed off on by ALL legal owners, with the notary acknowledgement being dated within the last 40 days.
  • An out-of-state title which has been properly signed off of, depending on that State's laws, dated within the last 40 days.
  • A bill of sale/purchase agreement from a dealership, signed by both the purchaser and a selling agent, dated within the last 40 days.

If you have recently moved to Montana and are waiting for your title to be sent here from out of state, you may also come in to get a temporary permit to drive on if your plates are going to expire soon. You will need to bring in your most recent vehicle registration, with your own name listed on it as an owner. Please also bring your valid photo ID.
