Background
The Gallatin Rest Home Auxiliary was established in 1980 to serve as volunteers and enhance the well being of our residents. The Auxiliary meets at least four times a year. Membership is open to all men and women interested in the welfare of our residents. Dues are $10 per year. Our funds are earmarked for projects which benefit the lives of all the residents, rather than individuals.

We are a non-profit, tax-exempt organization and all donations

Nursing Home Visiting Tips:

  1. Go for a ride.
  2. Participate in any of the daily activities.
  3. Bring your own activity cards, watch television together, bring a pet, go for a walk, listen to a ball game, write letters for a resident.
  4. Come for lunch and socialize while eating.
  5. Bring in photos.
  6. Reminisce: Ask about the old days, work on genealogy together.
  7. Share your talents: Play a musical instrument, show your handiwork.
  8. Show and tell: What is new in your life.
  9. Help: Label clothing, mend clothes.
  10. Create a feeling: Of approval, of concern, of security, give a compliment.
  11. Touch: Some residents appreciate a hug, an affectionate pat, holding hands.
  12. Give undivided attention: Look at the resident when speaking or listening to him/her.
  13. Be positive: Don’t get caught up in the negative aspects of daily living.
  14. Identify yourself: Sometimes it may be necessary to remind your friend or relative of your name and relationship to them.
  15. Adhere to safety rule: No smoking.
  16. Bring a special treat: But check first with resident’s nurse or dietician for any possible dietary restrictions.
  17. Invite family members and friends to visit resident with you: Sometimes a resident may not be too communicative, but enjoys listening to others converse.
  18. Sit in front of the aviary and watch the birds.
  19. Go for a walk around the facility or in the Sensory Garden.
