What is Compost Used For?
West Yellowstone Compost Facility
~
Compost improves soil structure, porosity and bulk density, which creates a better environment for a plant’s root structure.
~
The moisture-holding capacity of soil is improved with compost, reducing water loss and nutrient leaching.
~
Beneficial micro-organisms are supplied to the soil, which  assist nutrient uptake and suppress certain soil-borne diseases.
~
A variety of macro and micro nutrients are added to the soil, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers – which research now indicates damage soil with extended use.
~
The nitrogen release of compost is slow and steady so plants receive a constant flow of nutrients.
