City of Bozeman's Pet Ordinances
LICENSING – Ordinance 6.04.020
All dogs and cats over the age of 6 months must be licensed in the City of Bozeman. This must be done at 411 East main Street. Phone 582-2327. Proof of rabies vaccination required.

RESTRAINT – Ordinance 6.04.070
Any dog or cat, while on a street, sidewalk, public way, or in a park, or other public space, should be secured by a leash. Every person harboring a dangerous or vicious animal is charged with an affirmative duty to confine the animal in such a way that no other person has access to such animal.

FECES – Ordinance 6.04.160
Any person owning, keeping, possessing, or harboring any dog or cat shall promptly remove and dispose of all feces left by dogs or cats on any public and private property not owned by such person or lawfully occupied by such person.

BARKING / BITING – Ordinance 6.04.110
Any dog or cat that makes disturbing noises, including but not limited to continued and repeated howling, barking, whining or other utterances, or causes injury or property damage is considered a “nuisance animal” and is prohibited.

NEGLECT / ABUSE – Ordinance 6.04.150 or MCA 45-8-211
It is illegal to mistreat or neglect an animal by beating, tormenting, injuring, killing, or carrying an animal in a cruel manner, or failing to provide such animal with proper drink, food or shelter, or abandoning any animal where it becomes a public charge.
