Press Release
PRESS RELEASE
October 15th, 2009
All property owners in Gallatin County were mailed their 2008 reappraisal notices in three phases beginning September 3, 2009. Some of those notices were re-sent due to re-assessments for some properties.
Montana State Law states that the taxpayer has 30 days after receipt of their reappraisal notice to either file an AB-26 form with the Department of Revenue (which is a request for informal review of your property record card) OR a tax appeal with the County Tax Appeal Board (§15-7-102, MCA). Filing a timely AB-26 or appeal is very important. Waiting until you receive your tax bill will be too late.
For most taxpayers this 30-day cycle is coming to its end, if it has not already passed. If you intended to, or are in the process of, filing either an AB-26 or appeal and have not yet submitted it – please check the date on your reappraisal notice. This is the date the notice was printed. Typical mailing time would ensure your notice was received 3 to 4 days after that print date. If you need help verifying the printing/mailing date, please contact the Department of Revenue at 406-582-3400.
For all AB-26’s received this week, the Department of Revenue is validating the mailing dates to ensure it meets the 30-day requirement of a timely filing. The Gallatin County Tax Appeal Board will also be validating timely submittal of all appeals received as of October 13, 2009.
If you have already filed an appeal, and have not yet heard back from the Gallatin County Tax Appeal Board, please contact us at 406-582-3000 so that we may check the status of your paperwork.
