Gallatin County, Montana
Public Administrator for the County
The Clerk of District Court is a consolidated position with the Public Administrator.  The Public Administrator is appointed as a conservator to manage someone's financial affairs or as a guardian to make medical and life decisions for people who are unable to do so themselves for a variety of reasons such as brain injury, alzheimers, mental handicap, or being under the age of eighteen.  The Public Administrator may also be appointed as personal representative in probate cases.  Being appointed as conservator, guardian, or personal representative usually happens when there is no one else or there is a need for an impartial person.

The Public Administrator can also be appointed as a representative payee for Social Security recipients who are unable to manage their own finances at the Public Administrator's discretion.

There are other local businesses/agencies that can be appointed either as guardians or conservators.  They are Fiduciary Consulting and Management, Inc. which can be contacted at 406-587-1930, Cottonwood Case Management which can be contacted at 406-587-4880, and Adult Protective Services which can be contacted at 406-585-9984.
