The board will be taking the summer off. The next board meeting will be held in September. The date and location is yet to be determined.
In the face of unprecedented county growth, many of our remarkable historic sites are threatened. The Gallatin County Historic Preservation Board, extablished in 1989, is a volunteer citizen board committed to protecting our vivid cultural heritage. The Board is dedicated to preserving landmarks as varied as the tourism of West Yellowstone to the historic building of communities through the preservation of ranches, museums, churches and cultural centers of Gallatin County.
The Historic Preservation Board is a volunteer board comprised of eleven citizens, appointed by the County Commissioners. The Board members recognize the profound value of historic preservation in our county which has been regarded as an attractive destination, not just for recent waves of settlers, but also for native peoples going back thousands of years.
The Board also has a small grants program, funded by the antique show proceeds that the Board sponsors annually in February. Grants may be used for restoring historic structures, interpreting historical events, publication of historic materials and interpretive signs, and educational programs and research. Donations to the Board's small grants program may be sent to:
